Remembrance Day Parade Service

6 November 2013

This year Remembrance day falls on Sunday 10th November, as in previous years our Scout Troop is to take part in the Guiseley Remembrance Day Parade.  Naturally we would like to have an excellent turnout from the Scouts at this important event.

We feel that it is extremely important for young people to be aware of the sacrifices made by our armed forces, and feel that this is an appropriate way to do this.  We know that many Scouts have other commitments on Sunday mornings but feel that, just for once, they might be able to make this event a priority, especially as we are one of the few Scout Groups who do not have a monthly parade service.

Scouts should meet at 9.15 at the Guide Hut, The Green, Guiseley, in smartly ironed uniform with dark school trousers or navy Scout trousers and school shoes (no jeans or trainers!).  They should wear a poppy.

The parade will then form up and march to St Oswald’s Church for a 10.00am Service of Remembrance.

After the Service there will be a wreath laying ceremony, with the last post etc., at the War Memorial on Towngate at the top of the Green.  This will commence at 11.00am.  After the ceremony there will be refreshments at the Guide Hut.

Parents are welcome to come along of course, although space inside the Church may be limited.

Please try to encourage the Scouts and Young Leaders to attend this event – we would like to have a really good turnout this year.
